Ms. Thivilojana, our English subject lecturer has introduced five pre-writing techniques to us in week 2 and week 3 which includes free writing, questioning, make a list, diagramming/clustering and a scratch outline. As i recalled, my preferable pre-writing technique would be diagramming. It is also called mapping and clustering where i would use lines, boxes and arrows to organize my ideas. It comes in handy when I am brainstorming for ideas and it is also useful for visual note-taking.
Besides, Ms. Thivilojana has also taught us the steps involved in writing practices, including tips on writing a good thesis statement and topic sentence, and also how to support the topic sentence with rational reasons.
We were also introduced to process, compare and contrast, as well as cause and effect essay.
After that, we're asked to choose one writing topic as our first English assignment out of three.
ASSIGNMENT 1
1. In some countries
young people have little leisure time and are under a lot of pressure to work
hard in their studies. What do you think are
the causes and effects of this condition? Plan your response,
and then write a cause or effect essay.
2. Write a compare or contrast essay about any two
traditional houses of your choice.
3. Identify the steps
involved in producing an attractive sketch. Then, write a process essay
to describe this process.
I've chose the first essay topic as I found it very relevant to my daily life. It's an individual task where it contains 30% of mark so I put really much effort into brain-storming for ideas and writing this essay. While completing this assignment, I got to learn about the importance of time management for the young generation in order to get the grades while having sufficient leisure time.
